Agency vs Product
Agency vs Product
Agency vs product is the strategic tension sitting underneath Duodode. Both models are legitimate. Both compound in different ways. For me, the question is not which is objectively better. The question is which one fits where I am right now and how the two relate over time.
The two models
- Agency - trade execution for money. Fast revenue, direct market feedback, capped by delivery capacity unless systematized.
- Product - trade time and capital upfront for an asset. Slow start, but uncapped Scale and strong Ownership if it works.
Why agency first
Duodode is an agency because it fits my current position: strong craft, real Taste, working technical range, and no interest in burning years without feedback. An agency earns while I build, exposes me to real businesses, and sharpens Business Strategy.
See Digital Agency.
Why product eventually
The long arc is larger than service revenue. I want Ownership, Scale, and real Leverage. Products are often where those compound fastest. See Millionaire Goal and Long-term Goals.
How the two can connect
- Agency cash flow funds product bets
- Agency client work exposes product-shaped problems
- Productized Services act as a halfway step
- AI Automation and Systems built for clients can be spun into internal products
The agency is not in opposition to the product path. It is the ramp.
The trap
Running an agency while pretending to build a product usually produces neither. The honest version is sequencing: build the agency well, earn the right to build the product, then actually do it.
