All the Light We Cannot See — Anthony Doerr

All the Light We Cannot See — Anthony Doerr

A historical novel following two young lives that intersect during World War II.

Essay

I always remember books more vividly when they can hold two scales at once: the violence of history and the delicacy of private life. That contrast is what gives this novel its shape for me. The world is breaking, yet the interior life still matters.

That is why this book feels tied to What Lasts for me. Underneath destruction, there are still small acts of attention, care, memory, and perception. I do not think those things are secondary. Often they are the point.
