Huong Lan

Huong Lan

The Feeling Of That Time

Huong Lan belongs to a very specific emotional climate in my memory: high school afternoons, summer looseness, and the kind of friendship built through repeated ordinary presence. She was strong, decisive, and caring toward friends in a way that gave her a very clear outline.

Some people blur into the group once enough years pass. She does not. Her energy was too defined for that.

After School, On The Way Home

One of the clearest recurring memories is going home after school with her and Giang. That rhythm matters to me more than a single big event would. It captures the daily side of High School, when friendship was still built from who you kept ending up beside.

There is a lot of truth in those repeated routes home. They tell you who belonged naturally in your day.

The Drink Shop Summers

Her family ran a drink shop, and that place became part of the map of those years. Giang, Duc Anh, and I often went there. There were summers when we spent a lot of time in that orbit, and because of that, Huong Lan is tied not only to a person but to a setting.

That is one reason I connect her to Friendship and Vietnam so naturally. The memory is social, local, warm-weathered, and ordinary in the best way.

Why She Belongs Here

She belongs here because she holds together several things I still value when I look back on those years: decisiveness, loyalty to friends, and a setting that became inseparable from the people in it.
