Human Evolution
Human Evolution
Essay
I keep coming back to the question of how humans became what we are because it changes the scale of everything else. Traits that feel personal start to look ancient. Systems that feel permanent start to look temporary. The present becomes easier to read once it is placed inside the much longer story of how a species learned to imagine, cooperate, fear, fight, organize, and dominate.
What attracts me here is not only the past. It is the angle it gives me on the present. Human evolution helps explain why intelligence is social, why stories can move whole groups, why status matters so much, and why progress in tools does not automatically mean progress in wisdom. It makes modern life feel less accidental and less self-important at the same time.
This connects naturally to my broader curiosity about Humanity's Place in the Universe and the Future of Humanity. If I want to think seriously about where we are going, I need some sense of what kind of creature is actually doing the going.
