Compounding
Compounding
Compounding is one of the ideas sitting under most of my long-term thinking. It is the reason I choose certain kinds of work and avoids others. He picks the ones that pay back more than once.
What compounds for me
- Shipped work (reputation, portfolio, Client Work)
- Systems that outlive the effort of building them
- Taste and Competence, which grow with every project
- Books, Philosophy, and Long-form Thinking, which sharpen every future decision
- Relationships, which open larger doors over time
- Ownership stakes in businesses and assets
What does not compound
- One-off transactions
- Work done only for short-term cash
- Motion that does not feed into a larger system
- Fluff that produces no signal
Why I care
Compounding is the quiet engine behind Leverage, Scale, and Wealth Building. Ignore it and progress feels like running in place. Respect it and time starts to work in my favor.
The discipline
Compounding only shows up if the inputs are consistent. That is why I treat execution, Self-Development, and Running as ongoing practices, not campaigns.
