Sherlock
Sherlock
Sherlock is a show about sharp minds operating at high speed. For me, it is both entertainment and a language lab. Tight British English, dense dialogue, and a main character whose whole value is speed of thought.
What it gave me
- Exposure to sharp, fast English
- A model of a character whose main weapon is cognition
- British rhythm and vocabulary to go with my American sources
- A feel for wit and precision in speech

Why it resonates
I value Clarity, Competence, and Precision in Speech. Sherlock is a character whose entire character concept is exactly that. Watching someone think fast and speak sharply is useful input if you want to do the same.
Themes I resonate with
- Observation as a trainable skill
- Sharp thinking as personal identity
- Competence over performance
- Intellect as a real weapon
Language input
The dialogue is fast, layered, and dense. That forces attention and feeds my goals in Eloquence and Articulation. It pairs well with Mad Men and Succession as sources of high-register English.
Connection to my system
Sherlock is a reminder that Competence at thinking and speaking is a kind of leverage. I am already trying to sharpen both. The show is a fictional high-water mark for what that can look like.
