English

English

English is the language I think, writes, and builds in. I am fluent across reading, writing, listening, and speaking, but I treat it less as a finished skill and more as a surface I keep sharpening. For me, English is the working language of Entrepreneurship, Tech, Design, and serious Long-form Thinking, and how well he handles it directly affects how precisely I can think, sell, write, and lead.

Where it came from

English was not handed to me in a Vietnamese classroom. A large part of it was absorbed through American and English-language TV, books, and the internet. Shows like How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Silicon Valley, and later Mad Men and Succession trained my ear for rhythm, slang, timing, and how people actually talk. During high school he deliberately used series to push my English further. See American Pop Culture Influence.

Current state

I read, writes, listens, and speaks fluently. He operates in English across business, technical documentation, writing, thinking, and conversation. The foundation is solid. The work now is not basic fluency. It is refinement.

What I want next

I want to become more eloquent and more natural. Specifically he wants:

See English Goals.

Relationship to thinking

English is not just communication. It is the medium in which he structures thought. A sharper English means sharper writing, clearer pitches, better decisions on brand copy, and cleaner arguments in my own head. The same reason he cares about Clarity and Directness in communication is the reason he cares about my English getting better.

Connection to building

Duodode operates in English. Client conversations, Branding work, copy, proposals, and positioning all run on it. Better English directly increases my Leverage. My view is practical: language quality is business quality when the business sells ideas.

How I use media to keep sharpening

He still treats TV Series, YouTube, Books, Essays, Substack, Medium, and The New York Times as ongoing English training as much as content. Good writing raises my floor. Sharp dialogue raises my ceiling.

Contrast with Vietnamese

My native Vietnamese is the language of origin and family. English is the language of ambition and output. They are not in competition. They live in different slots in my life. See Vietnamese.
