Essay

I remember this as one of my favorite fiction books because it gave ambition real blood in it. Abel stayed with me most. There is a resilience in him that feels larger than the plot. He carries the kind of force I naturally admire: someone who gets hit by life, keeps moving, and refuses to stay small.

There is also a certain American-dream energy in the book that I respond to. Not in a naive way, but in the sense of movement, scale, reinvention, and hunger. It connects to the part of me that cares about Ambition, Wealth, and becoming more than the circumstances I started with.
