Intellectual Life
Intellectual Life
Intellectual life is a real part of how I operate, not a decoration on top of the building life. I do not see thinking and making as separate. They feed each other.
What it looks like
My intellectual life is built from:
- Books and Long-form Thinking
- Philosophy, especially Nietzsche
- Essays, Substack, Medium, The New York Times
- Video Essays on YouTube from channels like Exurb1a, Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell, Sisyphus 55, Olisunvia
- Science Fiction and curiosity about Space
- AI Tools used as thinking partners
It is not passive consumption. It is a project aimed at building Worldview, Perspective, and Mental Edge.
Why I takes it seriously
I am introspective by nature. A life without serious thinking would feel diluted to me. I want ideas that sharpen how I live, not entertainment that fills time. That is the whole motive.
I am also ROI-driven. An intellectual life has enormous compounding returns: better Judgment, better decisions, better Duodode, better direction.
The relationship to building
A strong intellectual life makes building sharper. It gives Hendrix the frames, language, and range to see my own business with perspective. It is one of the inputs that keeps Duodode from being a generic agency.
Conversely, Build and Ship keeps my intellectual life honest. Shipping stress-tests ideas. If something does not survive contact with real work, it probably was not a good idea.
What it is not
It is not academic posture. It is not the performance of being smart. It is not reading to have read. It is reading, thinking, and reflecting in order to become better at seeing things and acting on them.
What sustains it
- Depth Over Trendiness as a filter
- Substance Over Noise as a default
- Refusing to let social feeds dominate attention
- Consistent time with Long-form Thinking
- Real Introspection
