Depth Over Trendiness
Depth Over Trendiness
Depth over trendiness is one of my default filters. When I choose what to read, what to watch, who to learn from, and what to take seriously, I pick depth. Trend value decays fast. Depth compounds.
What this means in practice
- Books over hot takes
- Serious Thinkers over popular ones
- Long-form Thinking over short clips
- Timeless ideas over current noise
- Real craft over aesthetic trend
It does not mean ignoring the present. It means weighting the deep stuff more heavily than the fashionable stuff.
Why this filter exists
I do not want my thinking shaped by whatever is loudest this week. I want a Worldview that holds up. Trendiness pushes attention toward whatever is momentarily high-engagement, which is not the same as whatever is actually true or useful.
The trade-off he accepts
Deep material is slower. It is less socially rewarding. He accepts both. The payoff is a mind that does not have to be rewired every six months because the last trend hollowed out.
How it shows up across my life
- In Philosophy he reaches for Nietzsche, not viral quotes
- In Building he cares about real output, not what is trending on Twitter
- In Design I prefer timeless work over surface trends
- In Money I think in Long-term Upside, not get-rich fast patterns
- In Intellectual Life I build slowly, through depth
The connection to my building system
Depth over trendiness is the same pattern as Substance Over Noise and real output over vanity. It is how I protects attention and keeps Duodode anchored in work that creates actual Business Value, not aesthetic churn.
