Loneliness
Loneliness
Essay
Loneliness is different from Solitude. Solitude can be chosen and clarifying. Loneliness is what remains when the inner world has no clean bridge outward, when a person can be surrounded by life and still feel unshared inside it.
I care about this idea because some of the books that stay with me most are not loud or plot-driven. They are books that know how to sit inside emotional distance without making it melodramatic. That matters to me because loneliness is one of the more honest human conditions. It does not only happen when people are physically alone. It can happen inside love, friendship, cities, youth, ambition, or ordinary routine.
What books give me here is language. They make the feeling more legible. That does not cure it, but it does keep it from staying vague.
